16. More time to expand on my post of yesterday. I also experience lurching in 1st and 2nd gear, especially for the first few blocks in an Iowa winter, better once wrmed up, but embarrassing in city driving so I took back. The first time in they found nothing, I shifted a few other Si's and were similar, so thought I would get used to it. Alas, I didn't and was annoyed with shift process. So, 2nd time in they did change my transmission oil (upgraded) and problem was less. But problem has returned and finally frustrated took back in for third look, when the DM was in town and he test drove. They told me no problem, that they were shifting with two fingers, yea so can I, but not when you're challenging a BMW 335 off the line!! To me its a safety issue as I get a faux shift feel and it will pop out to nuetral. No fun to be driving a "performance" vehicle with no confidence!!!

17. Syncromech doesn't fix the problem, it just hides it for a couple thousand miles. Eventually, the 3rd gear notchyness will come back and by that time, your warranty will be up and you'll be facked. Take it in to Honda and complain! That's the only thing we can do to convince them that a piss poor transmission isn't something that can be swept under the carpet.

18. i have a 2007 accord coupe exl 6 speed. there is 16,000 miles on it and i was having a problem with third gear. I took it to honda and they told me it was my clutch. Then they said that its not covered under warranty due to tire wear and tear. i had to go out and get a new clutch installed. the car is 9 months old and they wont warranty it. they told me its 12,000 miles or 12 months for a clutch but what ever happen to a lease having 36,000 miles or 36 months. Having alot of problems with honda. I called the main honda and had a case manager look at the case I complained about and they told me honda said no so its no. Brand new car and already the clutch is shot. What good is a warranty if they wont warranty it

19. Numerous civic sites have specific threads stickied because of the specific issues with it. Dealer to dealer and Honda complaint hot lines will give you different stories about this issue or state there has not been an issue reported yet. One thread on 8thcivic dot com has everyone posting the talk with Honda the claim number and who it was they talked to with a summary. All I can say is WOW to some of the responses. FOX news interview a guy in California who was protesting in front of the dealer ship that told him there was nothing wrong with the transmission. The reporter then looked into it more and found the forums and a petition that had been signed by almost a 1000 owners. I know of one person in Springfield Ma that actually got the dealership t admit there was a problem and they replace a couple of things related to third gear.

21. As far as the lurching and jumping goes when the car is cold, I now let the car warm up in the mornings and this seems to solve my problem. Im not happy with it but once the car hits operating temp this problem goes away.

22. DYonehara you said "Syncromech doesn't fix the problem, it just hides it for a couple thousand miles. "
Do you have first hand experience with this ie your car or are you just passing on information you have seen on the web? Certainly there is a lot of misinformation on the web. After changing to the GM Syncromesh my problem is gone and it's been about 2,000 miles.

23. ..."Synchromesh doesn't fix the problem" II:
If that is the GM Friction Modified stuff (P/N is 12377916).................
1. It's getting good reviews on other sites.
2. 3 Quarts awaiting............
2005 6M at 48k........infrequent third gear synchro issues do persist (but they actually are somewhat rare)
Sure like to know if and when Honda issues a TSB on this issue.
Otherwise (well, that clutch engagement is not something to write home about) it's been a great car. Really impressed with Interstate fuel numbers. I have calculated 39 twice, 38 twice and hit 33 to 37 all the time,
..ez..

24. Yeah my 2007 Civic Si did the same thing(grinding 3rd gear), now it doesn't, mainly because the clutch came out at 10,000 miles and I can't drive it until I get done fighting with Honda over who will be paying the $1400 for a new one. Everyone at the dealership and Honda customer service has acted like I'm the only one! They say the clutch came out from being riden too much, but this is not my first manual or my first Civic manual and I never had any problems before and I'm not the only one replacing a clutch at such low mileage.

28. My 2006 Acura RSX-s is sitting at the dealer as I write for the same 3rd gear problem. I've had it in 3 times since I bought it. First time they change the fluid and it fixed it for a few months. Problem returned. 2nd time they told me they couldn't find a problem and sent me home. 3rd time, it's almost out of warranty so I figure I'll take it back. Now I find out I'm not the only one. Armed with this knowledge - the war is on. Meanwhile, they give me a 2008 TL with Navigation package to drive - sweet! But I want my RSX-s back and FIXED!!!!

29. I have a 06 Si and had the same issues with 3rd gear though, like #15 but without the popping out, i took it to Honda and had them look at it and they said nothing is wrong with it and to bring it in if the problem persists, but since then i haven't really had that problem yet with 3rd gear so let's hope it is gone for good or i will be back to the dealer.
