Today, I left my house with just enough fuel in the tank to get me to work--go me for forgetting to fill up last night! And of course, running late for work this morning, I decided to try to make it with what I had. Usually, I hate not having enough gas; it brings unnecessary stress--you know, looking at the gas gauge every 30 seconds and thinking of the next exit with gas station, while being stuck in traffic for over an hour. Definitely not fun. Well, with my awesome guestimation skill, thrifty shifting, and easing up on my lead foot, I made it! Now I have Orange County gas prices to look forward to--that is if I make it to the the station...
One thing good about rockin' a del Sol S is that it's great on gas. Slow as *** but awesome with fuel economy. After a good tune-up, I've gotten over 400 miles out of my 11.9 gallons tank. Alas, this time, I was only able to squeeze out 370 miles. Still not bad, but definitely could've been better with conservative driving and no AC.
I emphasize that it's not a great idea to push your car this low on gas. Why? Because when it's this low, your car is forced to suck up all those gunky fuel deposits sitting in the bottom of your tank. So please refrain from going this low on gas unless you are lazy like me, or are holding on to the false hope that your gas light works (oh my gas light, I've seen you on only once... please do it again, if it's only one more time... please?)
So off I go to the gas station. If you don't see this blog up on Thursday, chances are I've stalled somewhere on Jamboree and Bryan.

Back! With no problem at that. My little narrative continues:
Start off with no gas. Don't believe me check it out. This is where I say goodbye to the peanuts that Primedia pays me.
Tank filled $32.81 cents later. I remember when I could get a full tank for half that price. At least, no VTEC=87 octane--I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that. Anyone else notice the price discrepancy between the posted sign and the price at the pump? From $3.43 to $3.35--I'm not about to complain.
Little gas tip: Other than keeping up the maintenance on your vehicle, try to fill up at night and/or colder temperature because the gas is denser. In essence, you get more gas for the price you pay. It's probably only a drop or two more, but hey, a penny saved is a penny earned!
